Designing Battery Packs for Medical Applications [Workshop]
  • Monday, February 3, 2025
  • 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM PT
  • Room 202AB

This comprehensive workshop will guide you through the entire process of developing battery packs for medical applications. We'll start with a review of design best practices, discussing how the latest trends from the EV industry are trickling down to the medical sector such as designing for prevention of cell-to-cell propagation and functional safety considerations. We'll also look at certain medical-specific applications and their challenges.

During this session, we’ll do a deep dive into battery cell technology by reviewing current status (chemistry and form factor), cell roadmaps, and new technologies such as Solid State, LMFP and Sodium Ion. We will also discuss market forces that cause challenges for the medical industry in terms of cell availability. We expect a very interactive session, so please come prepared with questions regarding any battery-related topic of interest.

Navigating Global Regulations and Tariffs Affecting Lithium-ion Batteries: Implications for the Medical Device Industry [Conference]
  • Tuesday, February 4, 2025
  • 11:45 AM - 12:05 PM PT
  • Room 202AB

Regulatory mandates and tariffs significantly affect the global lithium-ion battery industry and present challenges for the medical device sector as more products transition to lithium-ion battery power. This presentation will offer an update on transportation regulations, forthcoming battery tariffs, and EU Battery Passport requirements as they effect the medical device industry.

Participants will gain insight into how regulatory changes and tariffs affect the global movement and cost structure of lithium-ion batteries, particularly for medical device applications. The discussion will delve into key transportation compliance challenges, such as stringent packaging, labeling, and handling rules that medical device manufacturers must navigate. Additionally, we will explore the implications of current and future tariffs on lithium-ion imports, which influence cost and sourcing strategies.

Finally, the session will cover the EU Battery Passport, a new regulatory framework that mandates extensive traceability and sustainability standards for batteries entering the EU market. Attendees will learn about the requirements, potential compliance hurdles, and the long-term impact of this regulation on both the battery and medical device industries. This update is essential for stakeholders seeking to better understand and adapt to the rapidly changing regulatory environment.
